Highest participation rate to date

In the year of its 20th anniversary, the DJSI 2019 included 61 industries, and experienced a record of 1,166 out of 3,519 invited companies actively participating. The largest geographical region with increased participation was Asia Pacific, making up 38% of the total. The United States has seen the highest absolute increase in participation score on country level. On industry level, the Utilities sector has seen the highest increase in participation.

General developments

A global shift of global transparency and public disclosure can be noted. As SAM wants to not only assess on ESG reporting but also ESG performance, SAM continuously aims for data to be verifiable by the global investment community. As a result, the 2019 CSA introduced more performance-based scoring.

Highlighted criteria

The 2019 CSA included newly added, updated and replaced criteria. Highlighted criteria in the webcast included Information Security/Cybersecurity & System Availability, Privacy Protection, Sustainable Finance, Energy Mix, Raw Material Sourcing, and Living Wage. These are discussed in more detail in the summary on top of the page.
