At the 2008 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland business and foreign leaders called for strengthened public governance frameworks that will boost corporate global citizenship and fuel the fight against climate change.

United Kingdom's Prime Minister Gordon Brown called on the World Bank to take on an environmental role in fighting climate change.

At the same time business leaders at the gathering were calling for a post-Kyoto agreement with agreed upon emissions targets, the heads of 14 global companies signed an agreement imploring businesses to create public-private partnerships to bolster public policies and institutional capacity at the regional, national and global levels.
