RobecoSAM Yearbook 2016: Emerging Risks and Opportunities

Increasingly, companies consider sustainability not only as a means of mitigating or avoiding risks, but also for seizing new opportunities that can give them a competitive edge. In line with these developments, changing investor demands and business environments have been driving change in the DJSI-assessment.

Preventing Spankings from Rankings

Naming and shaming is increasingly regarded as an effective way to progress the sustainability of sectors and individual organizations. Therefore the global drive for sustainability is progressively leading to the emergence of green rankings.

Business Design Thinking as a Tool for Employee Engagement

Companies looking for innovation opportunities in the sustainability arena are increasingly applying collaborative processes: both within the company as well as with customers, business partners or other stakeholders. Open innovation and co-creation are fine examples of how organizations are becoming more transparent and receptive of external influences. But let’s not overlook the brainpower within the company. Spurring collaboration between employees across departments and by challenging them to come up with new solutions and concepts will not only bring forward new opportunities for innovation: it is also a great way to get people engaged.

Fit for ISO 26000? Do the Test and Find out

ISO 26000 was introduced by the end of 2010 and is an international guideline that supports organizations in the implementation of CSR. The ISO 26000 scope clearly states that it is meant as a guideline, not as a management system standard or for certification purposes. The state of the Dutch motorways in 2028: ways to the future

Within the innovation programme ‘Ways to the future’, Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch governmental organisation for maintaining and developing the motor ways, wants to involve the Dutch public at the design of the roads: what do road users and people who live near motor ways find important? “You have to find out what matters to your stakeholders”, says project leader Wil René Jansen. “Together with Finch & Beak, we conducted research to answer this question. We deliberately have chosen to work with an external consultancy in order to be able to think outside the box.” With the help of Finch & Beak, Rijkswaterstaat started a dialog with its external stakeholders, such as professionals, civil servants and citizens to identify their wishes and demands for now and for the future.
