The Brewers of Europe, which unites 29 national associations and represent the interests of Europe’s 8500 breweries is organizing the first Brewers of Europe Forum on 7-8 June 2018 in Brussels, Belgium. The forum will bring together the whole beer community to discuss and share ideas for a brighter future for beer.

Sunglasses That Help Save the Oceans in Style

With the recent UN resolution on marine litter and microplastics adopted by all 193 member states and studies claiming that our oceans will contain more plastics than fish by 2050, ocean plastics is en vogue. Roughly 13% of these ocean plastics are accounted for by abandoned fishing nets. Not only do these nets contaminate our waters, before disintegrating they lead to “ghost fishing”: entangling and killing hundreds of thousands of sea animals. With fishermen as obvious key stakeholders in this global challenge, entrepreneur François van den Abeele found a way to truly engage them: making stylish sunglasses from plastic waste such as retrieved fishing nets.

OpenIDEO Challenge: Crowdsourcing for Food Waste Solutions

If global food loss and waste were a country, it would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases. Production and distribution is responsible for two-thirds of the food that is wasted. The final third of food waste happens at the consumer level. This is the framing of OpenIDEO’s Food Waste Challenge kicked off on 19th July, generating 457 concrete ideas to combat food waste. OpenIDEO is a global community working together with leading organizations to drive collaboration and innovation leading to the design of solutions for the world’s biggest challenges.
