Practical Insights into Impact Measurement & Valuation

Earlier this year, RobecoSAM rolled out the Impact Measurement and Valuation criterion to all industries in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) universe. The new chapter posed a big challenge for many companies, which was reflected in the on average low scores in this area. Ahead of the DJSI Expert Training on 27-28 November in Barcelona where we’ll do a deepdive on the criterion in collaboration with RobecoSAM, we already shine a light on the emerging topic in this article.

Methodology Changes for the 2017 Dow Jones Sustainability Index

On March 30th, RobecoSAM will open its annual Corporate Sustainability Assessment: the base for selecting the best-performing companies for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). More than 3,200 eligible companies have received an invitation to participate in the 2017 DJSI assessment.To prevent surprises, participating companies are advised to take note of the announced changes for this year’s methodology, before deep-diving into the questionnaire.

Leveraging the SDGs with Responsible Investors

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been able to catch responsible investors’ attention all around the globe since they were adopted in September 2015. One year down the road, a coalition of investors, including the managers of more than €550bn in Dutch pension assets, publicly committed to integrate SDGs within their investment strategy. Although the coalition is a Dutch and Swedish affair for now, the intention and hope is that other institutional investors will come on board.

Building on 12 years of experience with the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, Finch & Beak is hosting a DJSI Expert Training in Amsterdam in collaboration with RobecoSAM. Coming March, global practitioners on ESG benchmarking will come together in Amsterdam to learn and exchange best practices with top level DJSI peers. The appropriate venue is Beurs van Berlage; the capital’s former stock exchange which is a first-rate location within a convenient 1 kilometer radius of Amsterdam’s central station.

Future Trends: What Would Investors Like to See?

Investors are calling for clearer, more comparable and more integrated non-financial reporting and greater accountability from company boards, according to a new survey. The study, conducted by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the European Sustainable Investment Forum (Eurosif), asked investors to evaluate the non-financial reporting practices of European companies.
