The 2020 Global Dow Jones Sustainability Index Results

After a prolonged submission period for the Corporate Sustainability Assessment due to the COVID-19 pandemic, last Friday S&P Dow Jones Indices announced the results of the annual Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) review. Arkema, Storebrand, Essity and Wendel Group are among the newcomers in this year’s DJSI Indices, while Alphabet Inc, Bank of America and UPS are among those who dropped out. As our summarizing infographic illustrates, this year the percentage of participating companies increased by an astonishing 19% compared to 2019.

The 2019 Global Dow Jones Sustainability Index Results

Last Friday, SAM and S&P Dow Jones Indices announced the results of the annual Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) review. Newcomers in this year’s DJSI Indices include Alphabet Inc, Bureau Veritas, and Hilton Worldwide Holdings, while Royal Dutch Shell, 3M and DuPont are amongst those who dropped out. As our summarizing infographic illustrates, this year the overall participation grew with an astonishing 18%. This is in large part due to the soaring use of ESG data by investors and the increasing evidence of the prime position that the DJSI holds within the ESG arena.

5 Top Tips to Accelerate Your DJSI Process and Performance in 2018

Many companies eager to be leading in the globally renowned sustainability benchmark - the Dow Jones Sustainability Index - start their internal engagement process immediately after the 2017 results are released. Since last year, many eligible companies that were not actively participating have been assessed by RobecoSAM based on publicly available data only. And what's more: the relative scores will be published in the Bloomberg terminal by the end of September.

Early 2017 TIAS Business School in Tilburg hosted a case challenge event to select its representative for the Nespresso MBA Sustainability Challenge. Jan van der Kaaij, Managing Partner of Finch & Beak, took seat in the jury to select the best team for competition in the challenge. Nespresso has been organizing the Nespresso Sustainability MBA Challenge as a means of stimulating sustainable innovation. Previous challenges included sustainability related topics such as brand image and integrated supply chains.

In May 2016, Innocent Drinks was rewarded as the winner of the water category of the Guardian Sustainable Business Awards with its Irri-fresa app. This application supports strawberry farmers in Southern Spain to drastically reduce their water usage. In order to scale up Irri-fresa’s impact, the company has embarked on a journey for which partnering is key.

2016 Dow Jones Sustainability Index Results

On the 8th of September 2016, RobecoSAM announced the results of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). We are proud to be working for Europe's frontrunners of which Koninklijke DSM and Telenet Group Holding are this year's industry group leaders. Other industry group leaders include Unilever, Roche Holding, Telecom Italia, and Metro AG. Companies that were added in this year’s world index are Cisco Systems, Essilor, Royal Dutch Shell, and Adobe Systems, whereas Samsung Electronics and BT Group are companies that have been deleted from the index.

On May 7th, Financial Times published a summary of the case “Bavaria and the Swinkels Familiy: Brewing a Sticky Brand” written by IMD professor of entrepreneurship and finance Benoit Leleux and Finch & Beak's managing partner Jan van der Kaaij.

Case: The Innovation Story of Bavaria

Mid Februari 2013, the case “Bavaria and the Swinkels Familiy: Brewing a Sticky Brand” won the prestigious 2012 EFMD Case Writing Competition in the category “Family Business”. The case was written by Benoit Leleux, professor at IMD Lausanne and Jan van der Kaaij, managing partner at Finch & Beak and highlights the key success factors of challenger beer brand Bavaria.

Over 85 Million Animals Each Year Benefit from Standards

Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) organized its latest Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards ceremony in Berlin, where leading food businesses from around the globe were rewarded for their commitment to improving animal welfare standards in their supply chains. According to CIWF the higher welfare policies and practices of this year’s award winners are benefiting over 85 million animals each year.

Biobased Coffee Capsules Are the Answer to Nespresso's "What Else?"

Global coffee consumption is still moving more and more towards specialty coffees and single-serve pod machines. The Nespresso coffee capsule system has become the worldwide standard for single served capsule systems. Every year around 15 billion of capsules are sold. Although the single served capsules are really convenient, it has one drawback: the aluminum and plastic they are made of, create a lot of waste.
